Day one of the South Dakota Society of Medical Assistants State Convention has begun. Located at the Sheraton Hotel in sunny Sioux Falls, SD, provided a nice back drop for the 2012 State Convention. This year's convention has many great opportunities for medical assistants including great quest speakers, a silent auction, lunch and more. After the welcome, attendees were greeted with their first speaker, Mary Jakobsen. Mary provided information on ADHD with information about what is ADHD, information about how it is diagnosed, as well as information on treatment and future research. The second speaker today was Lisa Carlson. Lisa presented a great deal of information on insurance exchange and how this is affecting health care today. Following the morning speakers, there was a chapter meeting where new business was discussed. After the chapter meeting adjourned it was time for lunch and a short break with time to check on silent auction items. The afternoon began with Darcy Jensen providing information on prescription drug abuse. The day wrapped with the final speaker Renae Kruse providing information on Living Wills and Advance Directives. Throughout the afternoon CRP training was provided along with more chapter meetings. Overall it was a great day for a convention with another fun filled day tomorrow!
